Portrait exhibition: 'A Tribute to the Music'

Fan art drawings and paintings

The portrait exhibition includes drawings and paintings as well as early works by Peter Simonsen created back in the 1980s. A real treat for Elvis fans, music lovers and for fan art enthusiasts. The exhibition took place from March 2nd to August 25nd 2018.

The art exhibition 'A Tribute to the Music - Vol. 1' was artist and portrait painter Peter Simonsen's personal tribute to some of the many singers, musicians and composers he has listened to in his life.

The exhibition's main artwork, a very large portrait of Elvis Presley - The King of Rock & Roll - was revealed by Mike Colin Andersen, one of Europe's best Elvis Impersonators. Both Mike Colin Andersen and another Danish singer and songwriter, Arly Badstue, performed at the Vernissage on March 2nd 2018.

The portrait of Bob Dylan painted by Peter Simonsen is also included in the 'A Tribute To The Music' exhibition

You'll also find paintings of Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour and Beth Hart at the 'A Tribute To The Music' exhibition

The portrait exhibition is a bit of a journey down Memory Lane beginning with the early hippie culture, flower power and rock genres of the 1960s and 70's ... and with names like Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Simon & Garfunkel. - I have always enjoyed a wide range of music from country, rock, blues, jazz to classical music and opera.

- I do not remember exactly when I bought my first single record, Peter Simonsen tells, but it probably was sometime in the late 60s. One of my first albums was an album with Elvis Presley - The King of Rock & Roll. As a boy, I also used the cassette recorder a lot - especially when I drew cartoons characters in my room. After midnight, the radio station called 'Radio Luxembourg' took over. At that time Radio Luxembourg played some of the hottest music from abroad. Those were the days :-)

- Music has been and is almost always my companion when I am drawing or painting. Why I do not know. That's just how it is. Compared to the portraits exhibited ... well, I always listen to the songs and music of the singer or musician I'm painting.

- I'm definitely inspired by the music while I'm painting. Everything just flows better when I listen to music during the process.
